Zemelnyi office building developed by UNK has become the winner of the most prestigious and oldest international architectural awards - International Architecture Awards and has been shortlisted for the top projects worldwide created over the past several years.
This season, the buildings constructed or designed during the period from 2019 to 2022 with a focus on caring attitude towards environment and local culture, inclusive design and sustainable solutions were nominated for award. The Award saw a record total number of submissions - more than 600 projects from 48 countries - from China, Canada, USA, Japan, Kuwait, Israel, etc. The festive awarding ceremony took place on September 9, at the bottom of the Acropolis in Athens.
"Participation in international contests has always given companies a chance to assert themselves on the global scale. But today, amidst challenging times in relationships with foreign countries, a victory of the Russian nominee in the international award is indeed a milestone event. First of all, this attests to the quality of architectural solutions, the most important experience for Russian experts and our joint professional victory," said Sergey Kuznetsov, chief architect of Moscow.
Zemelnyi office building is situated near the metro station Ulitsa 1905 Goda and is the world's first office building with a vertical garden at the 55-th parallel of northern latitude. The facility was put into operation in 2021 and has become in less than a year a tourist and local attraction owing to its unique architecture.
"This victory in one of the most prestigious international contests is a clear sign that we are moving in right direction and create world-class projects. The list of Award winners over the past several years includes Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster + Partners, AEDAS and we are proud to be among the leading internationally recognized architects. In the past, our project Academic office building has also become the laureate of the international award, and the victory of Zemelnyi in 2022 proves that we successfully compete in the foreign market and confirms high professionalism of architects from our country. Zemelnyi building is an example of how architecture can change the urban environment, and in several seasons when the vertical gardens gain full strength, Muscovites will embrace this idea as well" said Yuliy Borisov, CEO at UNK, author of the building, member of the Moscow Architectural Council.
